It is just over a week until the 2010 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering & Technology (www.philengtech.org) to be held at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO on Sunday evening and all-day Monday, 9-10 May 2010.
Preparations for the meeting have gone very well and a full conference schedule with abstracts is available online at http://philengtech.org/program/. Registration will begin on Sunday afternoon in the Student Center at 4 pm and the Forum will begin with opening remarks at 5pm, followed by Steven Goldman’s keynote talk. Meet old friends and make new ones at the opening conference reception at 6:30 pm. A packed, stimulating, and busy day of philosophy and engineering begins Monday morning at 8am with opening remarks and papers sessions.
Presenters have already registered and others who wish to attend and have not yet registered may do so by going to the registration site https://www.regonline.com/fpet2010 (major credit cards accepted). Those who wish to register onsite may do so with credit card or check (US banks only).

As evidenced by the program, the titles, and the abstracts, fPET-2010 promises to be the best meeting ever at the intersection of philosophy and engineering. The deadline for submitting revised abstracts to fPET-2010 was Friday, 9 April 2010. The deadline has been extended until Monday, 12 April 2010. The abstract length and reference requirements for the revised abstract are the same as for the original abstract. Abstracts that are not revised by the deadline will be be printed as they were originally submitted.
Full-length papers are NOT required at this time. Arrangements will be made following fPET-2010 to select and publish a number of the best contributions to the Forum in an edited volume similar to the one that resulted from WPE-2007 (here).
To submit a revised abstract go to the submission site (here) and log in as before and modify the abstract. Following submission of the revised abstract be sure that one presenter is registered to attend the conference by going to the registration site (here). If the presenter is not an author, please send an email to Diane Michelfelder (michelfelder@macalester.com) or Dave Goldberg (deg@illinois.edu) to let the Forum know that a non-author will be presenting your paper.

Those who register before 9 April 2010 will receive a discounted registration fee as will members of cooperating organizations (ASCE, ASEE, IEEE, SPT) and students.
One author from each accepted paper is required to register before the 9 April deadline. Those who wish to attend and listen and discuss two outstanding plenary speakers (here) and nearly 60 papers on a variety of topics spanning a range of topics related to philosophy, engineering, and technology should register today for what promises to be a stimulating forum.

Anu Ramaswami, Professor and Director, IGERT Program in Sustainable Urban Infrastructure, University of Colorado Denver, will give a lunchtime keynote talk on Monday, 10 May 2010 at the 2010 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering & Technology at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. Her talk is entitled Challenges in Sustainability Engineering– Design for Whom, How and Why?.

Noted philosopher and historian of science and technology, Steven L. Goldman, Lehigh University will give give an invited keynote lecture at the 2010 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering & Technology (fPET-2010) to be held 9-10 May 2010 at the Colorado School of Mines.
His talk is entitled Beyond Satisficing: Design, Trade Offs and the Rationality of Engineering and more information about the talk and the speaker is available on the philengtech.org website here.
The review process is well underway for the 2010 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering, and Technology to be held 9-10 May 2010 (Sunday evening to Monday) at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. 66 abstracts were submitted across a spectrum of interesting topic areas at the crossroads of engineering and philosophy. The review process is well underway (reviewers are encouraged to complete their reviews by Monday, 15 February 2010) and planning for the intensive one-day session proceeds apace.

This year’s European Association for the Study of Science and Technology conference will include a track on Engineering Practice co-chaired by Sarah Bell (UCL) and Darryl Farber (Penn State). The conference is to be held 2-4 September 2010 in Trento, Italy.
The aim of the track is to bring together researchers working on the social, political and philosophical dimensions of engineering. We welcome papers on topics such as:
- ethnography of engineering practice
- the relationship between engineering and policy
- social studies of engineering knowledge
- reflections from practicing engineers and engineering researchers
- public engagement with engineering
- incorporating contextual considerations into engineering education
- gender and diversity in engineering
- theoretical contributions from science and technology studies to the understanding of engineering knowledge and practice.
